Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment
"The body's musculoskeletal system
.forms a structure which, when disordered, may effect changes in the function of other parts of the body. This effect may be created through irritation and abnormal response of the nerve and blood supply to other organs."
- A.T. Still, M.D., D.O.
The following are some of the types of OMT practiced by this office:
- Active & passive myofascial therapy
- Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) & neuromuscular therapy
- High Velocity Low Amplitude (HVLA)
- Low Velocity High Amplitude
- Strain-counterstrain technique
- Facilitated release
- Positional release
- Cranial osteopathy
- Chapman's Reflex Technique
It must be stressed to the patient, that OMT does not define the osteopathic experience or philosophy. Osteopathic medicine does not mean traditional medicine "plus" osteopathic manipulation; as noted, it encompasses a broader, deeper understanding of osteopathic principles to the maintenance and management of a patient's well-being.
